Do’s and Dont’s

BOBCARD Dos and Don’ts

Dos

  1. Keep your card in a safe place where you will immediately know if it is missing.
  2. Keep your Personal Identification Number (PIN) a secret.  Never write your PIN on your card or store it with your card. Memorize your PIN.
  3. Protect the card’s magnetic stripe.  Do not expose your card to magnetic devices.
  4. Review your account statements frequently, for fraudulent transactions.
  5. Report lost or stolen card immediately.  To report your card as lost or stolen, please call 17899928 (Thimphu) or 17899927 (Phuentsholing) or Hotline 220 or 252042/252225 (IT Department).
  6. Take all receipts from ATMs with you.  Keep them for verification against your monthly statement.
  7. Block the view of keypads when using ATM.
  8. Look for fraudulent devices attached to ATM’s Card Reader.  If the machine appears to have any attachments or alterations, do not use it and report the problem to Bank of Bhutan Ltd immediately.
  9. Always change the ATM PIN as soon as you receive it.  Preferably, change it every Quarter.
  10. Remember to take your card back from ATM after completing your transactions.
  11. Be alert. If you find signs of any external fittings or loose wiring at the ATM, report to the Bank and use another ATM.

Don’ts

  1. Never disclose your ATM PIN to anybody.
  2. Never carry your Card with PIN in your Wallet or Purse.
  3. Do not allow anyone else to use your card and enter your PIN for you.
  4. Do not give ATM card information over Phone or Internet.  This includes your 16-digits card number and PIN.  No one needs to know your PIN, not even bank official will ever ask for this information.
  5. Never use a PIN that could be easily guessed, e.g. your birthday or telephone number.
  6. Never write down the PIN on Card or anywhere else – try to memorize it. If you enter the wrong number more than three times, the card gets automatically blocked for that day.
  7. Do not use your mobile while using the ATM.
  8. Do not allow others to stand inside the ATM cabin when you do a transaction.
  9. Never give your card to friends/relatives for transacting on your behalf.
  10. Do not use poorly lit ATM locations.
  11. Never leave your card unattended, e.g. in your car, in a hotel room or at work.
