IFC and the Bank of Bhutan have partnered in a landmark US$20 million investment — first foreign debt investment in Bhutan’s banking sector under the revised External Commercial Borrowing guidelines.
What this partnership will achieve:
- Expand lending to micro and small enterprises, which make up 95% of Bhutan’s registered businesses
- Support women-led and small business across the country
- Create thousands of jobs and strengthen access to finance nationwide
- Help individuals generate income and build assets
